Jaina had gotten back to Fandom this morning, and she blamed her parents for that. Next week was spring break, so she'd been planning to make Tino take her Caritas shift and just stay at home to work. The problem was that she had made the mistake of saying this out loud. In front of people. Sure, in her galaxy, she didn't take breaks between missions and was hardly even on her homeplanet, but that wasn't the situation in Fandom. Still, she'd apparently conditioned people so that when she said any word that sounded like or meant something similar to "vacation," they insisted she take it. So after deciding it wasn't an argument she felt like having, Jaina agreed. Fine, she'd go to Hawaii. Huge chore, really.

She was slightly on the annoyed side this morning, though, trying her best not to think about the fight with Jacen and instead figuring she'd get class finished up today so she didn't have to do it after getting back from the trip. You know, the class she'd had done last week and then had to scrap because of the kids. One of which she still missed. Even working on class seemed to not be going so well, thanks to a drawer in her desk that stuck closed. After pulling on it for a while she managed to finally get it open, and since she now really felt the need to get out some frustration, she slammed the drawer shut about a half dozen times just because she could.

"...I don't even remember why I needed this open," Jaina said, frowning at the drawer.

Jaina could not be more relieved to wake up this morning feeling more normal than she had in a week. It was just a normal day, complete with training and not wanting to jump on anyone before heading into the office. It was a good thing, too; checking her messages meant she got the one from Luke asking her to come back for a mission. She couldn't imagine having to work like that, around Zekk, of all people. She was kind of excited to go back. It had been a long time, and if she was being asked onto assignments again, maybe it meant everyone was at least slightly less wary of/pissed at her.

This all meant that office hours today was spent not only working on class, but making a couple calls and trying to figure out if there was anything she needed to take care of before leaving tomorrow.

Jaina had had a good night that turned into a weird night that turned into a really rough morning involving a monster hangover.

Come afternoon, sleep, water, food and a few Jedi techniques had left her feeling fine except for some residual fuzzy-headedness and a slight headache, but it wasn't anything she couldn't deal with. Oh, and there was some embarrassment. She might not remember everything, exactly, but she remembered the important stuff and that was what mattered.

She was trying to ignore it in order to pack for her trip home, sticking to the essentials she'd need for a week Fandom time, and making calls to a few people to let them know she was going and that she'd be around till tonight. And she might have checked to make sure her comlink was packed about a dozen times already. Call her paranoid about leaving Anakin's messages behind.

[This is Jaina's last post in Fandom for a little while, not that she knows it yet. So, post is completely open, and if you want to be the recipient of one of Jaina's calls to come see her off, then she totally called you.
P.S. I can't help it, I just love giving her hangovers.]

At work, Jaina officially broke things off with John, and even if she thought it was the right thing to do, it hadn't stopped her from having a seriously good cry about it last night. And a little this morning. She was doing pretty okay, though. Maybe she'd known this was coming since the picnic, and it was civil enough that she thought something could be salvaged out of it. Even if it meant she could never listen to the radio again.

Besides the eyes that were still a little puffy, Jaina appeared to be handling it well. She'd gone about her day as normal, doing some training, working, (running a Google search for Bea Arthur, thanks Deadpool), running errands, and finally calling Rose to say that there needed to be ice cream and she should come over.

And then she took a seat on the sofa, really wishing she had a TV or something just so it wouldn't seem so quiet.

[For she who gets to share in ice cream.]

It was Jaina's birthday, but she wasn't drawing that much attention to it. Last year had been her last "big" birthday for a while, and she'd spent that one newly single and depressed, headed to the bar alone. This year she was spending it more or less newly single and confused, and she was just skipping the hangover this time. Besides, years of living here while having two birthdays a year meant she kept reminding herself that she was turning twenty-two, not twenty-three, and if she couldn't remember her own age, what was the point?

Instead, to celebrate, Jaina was trying not to burn down her apartment. It had been touch and go there for a second. She'd thought it would be easy enough to just throw something in the oven and take it out after a certain amount of time, but then she'd stopped to answer a call from home, and then there had been a smoke detector going off, followed by a smoke detector being pulled from the wall by Force to make it shut the kriff up, and ruined food, followed by a decision to maybe call for Chinese.

[Door open for air circulation! Post is open too, but for different reasons, and SP till I get off work.]

For once Jaina had woken up a little late, and then it was an incoming call from her comlink that woke her. It was probably sad that she'd automatically reached for both it and her phone to take them outside so as not to disturb anyone, but considering it'd been kind of a long call, it was probably a good move on her part.

After she'd thumbed it off, she stayed sitting on the front steps, off to the side so she wouldn't be in anyone's way. And she'd just leaned her head against the side of the cabin, closing her eyes. Not sleeping, just honestly resting her eyes. For now, at least.

[So, so open. Bored and icky-feeling so I rely on you, game, to keep me entertained.]

Jaina had originally planned on being in Fandom today, but the truth was she just hadn't felt like going back yet. Instead she'd gone to Denon, which was currently serving as the galactic capitol, visiting with people (including enough commanding officers to be confident they would take her back on active leave in a heartbeat) and just seeing what things were like there at the moment. According to her parents, if she stayed the whole summer in Fandom, she'd probably be going back to Coruscant, and this might be her only chance to see things like this. Considering the last time she'd been to Coruscant it had been covered with fire and volcanoes while groundquakes raged, she had no idea how they were going to manage to clean things up so fast, but it did give her some hope that things really were getting back to normal.

Getting her own room for the time she was here was easy enough, being who she was, and on her own she was unbothered by people enough to be able to roam the city streets and do things like shop.

It only sounded shallow. Fact was, things like buying new clothes hadn't been a priority when she'd been home since even before she left for Fandom. When she was home, her time was spent playing war, she wore a uniform most of the time, and the clothes she wore at school were primarily things she'd bought on Earth over the course of three years. She didn't really care what she wore, and jeans and a t-shirt was innocuous enough, but there was something about being able to wear her kind of clothes that just made her feel more at home with herself. ...The few inches she took off her hair while she was out, however, was just something she'd been meaning to do for months.

So when she got back to her room, she unloaded her purchases and started repacking, deciding that maybe she really was ready now to get the rest of her Fandom experience over with.

[NFB for distance, though I'm bored enough to say calls are awesome.]

There were very few people who Jaina would actually invite dress shopping, let's put it that way. But the fact was, it was Jaina's last prom, she had a not-boyfriend coming in, and those two things combined meant that her usual shopping method of walking into a store and picking the first thing in a color she didn't find horrible might not work so well. She trusted Rose's judgment.

Still, as she flipped through one of the racks, Jaina found herself saying, "I can't wait till I never have to do this again," even though she knew full well that she was probably never going to escape this sort of thing.

[For Rose! Also it amuses me far too much that I used an icon of Sophia shopping in appropriate context for the first time ever.]

The comlink project was turning out to be harder than Jaina had intended, but she was determined to get it done. Even if it meant getting Lowie on the comm to instruct her on how to do it. That was not going well. There was no mistaking the frustration in Jaina's voice, and while a bystander might not understand the growls and such coming from the other end of the line, there was frustration happening there, too.

"I have an idea," Jaina said finally, rubbing a temple. "Think you can get one set up from there and send it to me?"

Lowie grumbled his agreement at that, to which she replied good-naturedly, "Good Wookiee."

And yet as soon as the call was over Jaina was trying again, because again, determined.

[Door and post open post-call.]

For as much fun as she'd had in the Bahamas, Jaina was glad to be back to real life. Jumping back into routine wasn't even hard: class, training, catching up on work, and when that was all done, she had a little side project to work on.

Currently she was sitting on the floor of her room, trying to dummy up an extra comlink to match the settings she had on her own. So far it wasn't working too well. Give her machines and she would make it work, but this was a little outside her area of expertise. "Where's Lowie when you need him?" she muttered, determined to make this work regardless. Or maybe she'd beg Ben to do it.

[Omg on second day of headache make it stop. Door and post open.]

While this weekend had had its good points, it had also had its bad, and by Monday Jaina had figured that she'd put off resolving one of those issues long enough. Namely, setting things straight with her mother.

cut for call )

Roughly half an hour later, Jaina had placed a call to Jacen begging forgiveness, and a call to John, and was really wondering who she had to yell at.

[Omg I had to. Door and post can be open post-call.]
solo_sword: (irritation)
While classes had actually gone very well for Jaina, when she got back to her cabin to work, she was reminded of some more reasons she hated the cabins, namely that anyone could have heard the raised voice coming from her alcove. It wasn't that Jag had done anything wrong. In fact, he'd done his job, just like he was supposed to. The problem was, it was now something she couldn't do and that made her mad.

Later this would strike her as being sort of pathetic, but not yet.

When she finally ended the transmission, groaning in frustration, she was happy to check her voicemail. At least till she listened to the one following it.

Once her trademark annoyed scowl had faded a bit, she returned one of the calls. And saved the other number so she could maybe block it.

[Couldn't resist. Open if you want.]
