It was pure coincidence that Jaina and Zekk had finished up with their last assignment right before he had to be on Coruscant to testify about something he'd been doing while Jaina had still been teaching. This meant that she was back on her homeworld for the second time in about a month, and that she had up to a few days to wait for the next thing to come along for her to do.
Well, in theory. On the very first day she got the call from her grandfather. Amid assurances that things had been taken care of in Fandom- though wow did she ever have questions about people growing tails- she got to find out what the situation was.
And immediately she made the decision to help. Actually, no, "decision" was the wrong word. "Decision" implied that she might have gone another way.
Initially she wanted to find Zekk and tell him they were needed, but stopped herself before comming or going to find him. She didn't want to take him away from what he was supposed to be doing, for one, and... It didn't even cross her mind to tell Luke or any of the other Jedi that she was going to go. After the situation with the Dark Nest, if Jaina came to the Council and said, "I'm going to follow a call I got and go to a far-off place you've never heard of and help with a rebellion you know nothing about," there was no way she would have been allowed to go. It would only make things worse when she went ahead and did it anyway. So fine. Better to ask forgiveness than permission, right? But she also didn't want to get Zekk into trouble, and she knew for a fact there'd be trouble when she returned.
In the end, as soon as she was able, she packed a small bag, then sent a short message saying that she had something to do and would be back as soon as possible to Luke and Zekk... after she left.
[Establishy, call modded with permission, merry Christmas!]
