As much as Jaina didn't want to admit it, there was some weird time stuff going on in her galaxy, too, because Han and Leia managed to drag her on a forced vacation to Mon Calamari for days. They were still freaked out, enough that she'd gone without (too much) complaint. And she'd gone stir crazy being out there with nothing to do. Her parents had finally taken pity and given her leave, though they insisted that she take it easy and just take a break already. This after she told them about Hawaii. They hadn't believed her.

Since she hadn't been able to pinpoint when she'd get where she was going thanks to all the time weirdness, she got to the apartment on her own, opening the door with her key and hoping John was around.

[For he who deals with her and yay SP! I'm done spamming, I swear. Because now I go to sleep.]

Once Jaina had called John to bitch, hey guess who wanted to see her. There were mixed feelings on this, yes. Especially if they were on his time, which meant she was stuck like this longer, though at least she'd still have time to get everything done she needed to do before tomorrow. You know. Like explaining to Wedge and Jag why she looked and sounded like Jacen. Though she was pretty sure Jacen had never looked this pissy.

Having agreed to meet up at the hotel, Jaina knocked on the door to the room, still hating everything. At least here she was relatively sure she could freak out with the management only telling her to shush once or twice, as opposed to somewhere embarrassingly public.

[For the boy... the real boy, and blissfully NFB for distance.]

There was something kind of comforting about making plans for a trip home (especially after that gremlin bite which was not to be mentioned), even if it now meant pulling out calendars and trying to work out timing. Even when she knew that she could very well end up staying longer at home than she meant to, since every time she seemed to get into some sort of trouble that kept her there and getting captured or nearly killed. Bring it on. It was a very wrong kind of normal, but it was a normal she needed sometimes.

Once she'd gotten things settled, she made a couple calls to let people know, and started playing with her phone to see if there was any way to schedule herself in there too. There had to be an app for this big a scale...

[Door and post are open!]

For as much as Jaina was still kind of missing a certain little boy (and his siblings, shh), it was nice to get back to something a little more normal, even if it was entirely abnormal to others. But then again, how many of them got to celebrate a two year anniversary for six days? Technically speaking, between her sped-up time and his sped-up time, it had been much longer than just two years, which was why the Fandom date was the one that really counted: there was really no other way to work out the time. Might as well go the easy way.

Tonight Jaina had gone the simple route. When John got home, he'd find dinner was ready- takeout, but it was on actual plates so it was like she cooked- and music playing, and a girlfriend who probably shouldn't have put this out as early as she did, because it gave her free time to realize that "It's a Small World" was still in her head.

[I totally modded the boy. Mwahahahahaha.]

While this weekend had had its good points, it had also had its bad, and by Monday Jaina had figured that she'd put off resolving one of those issues long enough. Namely, setting things straight with her mother.

cut for call )

Roughly half an hour later, Jaina had placed a call to Jacen begging forgiveness, and a call to John, and was really wondering who she had to yell at.

[Omg I had to. Door and post can be open post-call.]
solo_sword: (working)
Jaina kind of really liked the times she and John obviously had nothing better to do with their time. It was a nice change of pace for her, one she really only let herself enjoy when she was here, And it led to things like going out and getting nail polish. Not because she was going girly on anyone, but because she kind of didn't mind that kind of attention. And thank you for that, Walter Jon Williams. *eyeroll*

When they got back to the apartment, Jaina guessed, "Probably not worth doing this out in the open, huh?"

[Omg you know how this goes by now.]
solo_sword: (in trouble)
It was really very, very weird that Jaina was doing as well as she was these days. For having a long-distance relationship she'd been so worried about at the beginning, it was actually going really well. And the time there allowed her time to relax without work being able to catch up to her. She'd even sort of had a vacation. Yes. In some reality Earth probably just spun off its axis into the sun and it was all Jaina's fault.

Which meant when she actually had a flood of messages and work to catch up on, it elt a little more normal. Or a lot more normal, and she'd been busy today, which was why she missed the call.

And immediately Jaina was getting to her feet to check on the fish John had left to her when he'd gone... and there it was, floating at the top of the water. She'd been pretty good about making sure it was fed and all so far, but between all the up and back and time lag she must have just forgotten. Cursing, she picked up a pen, pointing the non-writing end at the ex-fish, just in case it was enough to spur it into moving again, but no luck. There were better reasons to have to call.

At least it had taken her a month?

[I HAD TO. Post can totes be open. Door too.]
solo_sword: (looking away)
Apparently this was the week for Vegas or something. John was on spring break, and since Jaina seemed to be commuting for her weekends anyway, they needed to go somewhere that wasn't San Diego. For some reason. She didn't even know.

She kind of felt comfortable here, too. While the party side of things didn't really appeal to her, she was used to the lights and the noise and the crowds, and she didn't see a lot of that anymore. Plus it gave her a chance to clean up at the poker table and then wander around where she wasn't worried that security was checking them out. (She was doing nothing wrong. She was just good, okay?) And it just so happened that some of the wandering was done past stores that led to comments like, "This city just specializes in hookerwear, doesn't it?"

[For the boy!]
solo_sword: (pleased)
It was part time lag, part restlessness that had Jaina up already and raring to go. She still didn't know what had happened last week, though she'd figured out that something had, and apparently she'd developed an instinct to check up on Ben and Tahiri or something, to make sure they were okay. She knew where Tahiri was, Ben not so much, and she was actually fairly annoyed with herself for starting to worry there.

She set out early for the gym, figuring she'd get in some time before classes, but once she opened the door she found herself slightly distracted by the flowers set outside. Suddenly last night's conversation made more sense. She picked them up to set them on her desk, placing a quick call. Two years in and she was actually feeling more invested. That just wasn't right.

[Establishy.]
solo_sword: (i kinda rule)
To be completely honest, Jaina had spent a large part of her visit (namely, the parts when John wasn't around) bored out of her mind. Time moved too fast for work to catch up to her here, and she was dying to find someplace she could actually practice lightsaber drills. But time alone while he was at school or training meant she was expanding her horizons a bit. Or at least it meant that she got bored enough to attempt dinner on her own, even if it was just pasta. She was relatively sure she couldn't food poison anyone with it.

[For the boooooooooy.]
solo_sword: (irritation)
While classes had actually gone very well for Jaina, when she got back to her cabin to work, she was reminded of some more reasons she hated the cabins, namely that anyone could have heard the raised voice coming from her alcove. It wasn't that Jag had done anything wrong. In fact, he'd done his job, just like he was supposed to. The problem was, it was now something she couldn't do and that made her mad.

Later this would strike her as being sort of pathetic, but not yet.

When she finally ended the transmission, groaning in frustration, she was happy to check her voicemail. At least till she listened to the one following it.

Once her trademark annoyed scowl had faded a bit, she returned one of the calls. And saved the other number so she could maybe block it.

[Couldn't resist. Open if you want.]
solo_sword: (listening)
After Fight Club, Jaina brought her bag back to the cabin, unpacking from her trip. There were definitely benefits to her little arrangement with John, namely that in roughly two days, she got two weeks to spend with him, and because time moved so fast there, work couldn't catch up with her as much. Therefore when she listened to new messages and got responses back to her galaxy only a minute later, she was able to claim Trickster Goddess while they wondered how she did it. Plus there were talks with John's roommate for inside information about what she was missing, and mockery of the AFROTC shorts.

Of course she wanted to get rid of the weird insecurities and not miss so much of what he was doing, but the benefits still outweighed the bad parts by a lot.

And, she realized as she finished putting away the last of her things, it meant that even if she had to com back to the cabins, at least she felt somewhat rested. Which was good, because it was Sunday night and she'd just come from Friday morning, and someone wasn't going to be able to sleep tonight.

[Mostly establishy, but can toes be open if you waaaaant.]
solo_sword: (i look 12)
Once Jacen, Luke and Mara left, it was time to start gearing up for their own departure. Jaina and the rest of Twin Suns would be headed with Han and Leia to Galantos, not that they knew that yet, and there was too much still left to do. On one hand, it was driving her crazy not to be doing it all right now. On the other, a good point of having a co-leader to the squadron now was that she couldn't feel too badly about taking a little bit of time for her boyfriend before he left. If giving up that little bit of control bothered her that much anyway, then she was just not going to be able to deal once she got back to Fandom, so it was best to get used to it now. That was her story and she was sticking to it.

She headed back towards John's quarters, knocking on the door, because she was polite like that.

[For the visitor.]
solo_sword: (distracted)
Okay fine, it was escapist and Jaina really should know better than to go the avoidant route since that seemed to catchup to her more often than not lately. Too bad. She'd probably be back in Fandom in a matter of hours anyway so avoidant only went so far here.

Once the portal had gotten her there, she immediately got to distracting herself with checking out the details of the place till she found the right apartment and knocked on the door. And tried not to fidget with the strap of her barely-packed bag because she suddenly found she was nervous.

[For he who lives in the place.]
solo_sword: (oh noes)
When Jaina woke up again in the dead of night, there was a wave of annoyance under the fading terror. It'd be easier if she didn't remember what she'd been dreaming, but she remembered Myrkr when her subconscious wasn't working overtime, and this was so vivid...

For a moment she just lay there, listening to make sure no one sounded like they were coming to check on her and wondering why she kept having these. She'd had nightmares about that mission, sure. She thought she probably would for the rest of her life. It was a traumatic experience, sure, but she couldn't understand why it was coming back at her now. She'd had the trauma, she'd gone to the dark side, she'd come back from it, she'd gone on with her life more or less like normal for the last year-

And it clicked.

Anniversaries didn't so much matter to Jaina. Her timelines were so messed up that there was no use for keeping track of dates. There was one anniversary she bothered to remember and she wasn't even sure whether that one was something she should be keeping track of now. No, she remembered coming back to Fandom after Hapes and waking up in the cabins with the memory still fresh and doing whatever she could to suppress it so she could go about her daily life without being a sobbing mess The dates didn't matter. It was all about the setting and the circumstances.

She had how much longer to spend out here?

It didn't take long to figure out the next step. Very simply, she didn't want to deal with it right now. She was still reeling enough after that vision, but throw in the realization that she'd stumbled into the worst anniversary ever and it was just too much at once. That was why she was getting out of bed, trying not to wake anyone with her movements as she got dressed, threw a bag together, and made a call. Might as well take advantage of timelines when they actually worked for her, right?

[NFB, NFIIIIIIIIII. Have I tl;dr'ed at y'all enough?]
solo_sword: (working)
Jaina didn't emo. She could be sad, and contemplative if she really had to be, but she didn't dwell on things enough to be emo. Things she didn't want to deal with were repressed, problems she had to deal with were dealt with, and that was that. The current time situation with John was a problem, and one she was determined to get around. She couldn't fix it, but she could work with it.

She thought that maybe Leia might be relieved that her daughter had finally actually started working at a relationship she wanted to keep when threatened after a year of trying to convince her that that wasn't so scary. Then she realized Leia'd probably assumed Jaina would figure that out in her own time. Her mom was kind of awesome that way.

One of the steps to working around her problem was getting an iPhone. No, seriously. While for some reason this made her feel a little strange, since in all this time she hadn't really needed to buy into Earth tech (because it was primitive), it meant she could figure out when and where she was whenever she needed to. She'd be bouncing back and forth between here, home, and wherever and whenever John was; she was going to need that. Plus it meant she could access E-mail no matter where she was, though souping this thing up to make sure that could actually happen was out of her expertise. She found herself wishing her brother Anakin was around to do that, but she instead buried that thought and told herself instead that Lowie should be able to do that for her when she went home next.

For the moment, she was sitting on her bed- now with new and improved bedding- playing with the phone and trying to figure it out, as instruction books were for those without aptitude between receiving and making some calls.

][Mostly establishy, though the door is open if you don't mind my SP warning till after work.]</small

All right, fine, Jaina may have been sulking a bit. She hadn't had time to find something to distract her between leaving John and Colorado and getting back to the dorms, which meant too much time thinking. There'd been plenty of goodbyes lately, but having the person who'd pretty much gotten you through the last year, what, 3000 miles away? It was different.

Worse still was that this was the first time in a long time she hadn't just gone up to John's room after a trip, so she almost bypassed the third floor entirely, which was just going to make her feel like an idiot for a while. And when she got to her room and started to unpack, she set up her comlink to play her messages so she could multitask.

And she found a few she wasn't really expecting.

Frowning, she decided unpacking could wait a bit, and called him back. She hadn't even heard her comlink go off.

[For he on the other end of the line, and up early for timezone/RL interference.]
solo_sword: (yeah sure)
Jaina got back upstairs later than she'd planned to, with the goodbyes she had to say and Fight Club, though not necessarily in that order. At least yesterday had been good, and she had tonight to look forward to. Hopefully.

There was a reason when she got to the room, she asked, "You're not a bunny again, are you?"

[For the sometime bunny.]
solo_sword: (could hear better words)
Jaina'd left a bunny in the room after hearing the call for help, and by the time everything was over, she really wanted to do nothing more than curl up and sleep for once. But hey, she couldn't argue timing; say you're not good enough to face a Sith and then one shows up a week later? In that case, Jaina also wanted the war over and a million credits.

She didn't think either of those were going to happen.

When she got up to the room, she closed the door behind her and began working off her boots. They got to go away now.

[For the room's owner!]
solo_sword: (pleased)
Since a certain conversation last week, Jaina hadn't been sleeping well. Actually, if she was being honest with herself, certain dreams and nightmares had started again before that, but she was still ignoring those. Either way, it meant she didn't want to sleep, and she really didn't want to lie awake thinking. Which was why she was grateful for the bunny snoring on the pillow next to her. She'd been through a few of these transformations now, and that was definitely her favorite part. It was actually hard not to giggle, no matter what was going on with her.

Moving slowly so she wouldn't disturb him, she got out of bed and walked over to where she had her holotransmitter. This was probably her last chance, so she shamelessly recorded the scene for a moment. Look, it was adorable, even if he didn't think so. Besides, he'd shown Jacen his sister as a kitten, so as far as she was concerned, she was totally in the clear.

As she got back into bed, she still wasn't going to be sleeping much and she knew it, but at least she got a little bit of happy distraction. "You'd hate me for saying it," she said quietly, "but I'm glad you picked this week for this."

John just snored some more.
