Eclipse, Saturday Fandom time
The small team of young Jedi had done very well in the battle in the Froz system, especially considering Kyp's team had fared worse. They'd only been out there monitoring Vong presence from the asteroids out there when things had gone badly, and Jaina knew that in large part the outcome had to do with her. Anakin was the leader, but she was in charge of tactical maneuvers, and when the going got tough, she got bossy. It didn't even really register that everyone had followed her; she just did what she thought needed to happen and it got done.
And she'd helped defend Kyp's squadron. Willingly. Without any ill feeling towards him during it. She was feeling nice and vindicated at the moment. It also helped that she'd refused to stick around to see him. She'd also avoid him if she could afterwards, and he'd be stupid to try and seek her out anyway.
She'd gotten as far as hitting the door controls to her quarters when she heard Anakin say, "Can I talk to you for a minute?"
"Of course, little brother." Jaina nodded, gesturing for him to enter first. The base still hadn't gotten the heating problem fixed entirely, meaning her quarters were still on the too-warm side, but she was going to enjoy it while she could.
"Is that with capital letters, or small?" he asked, stepping inside.
It was a bit odd, yes, having the leader of the team going around with the callsign Little Brother, especially since he wasn't even the youngest on the team. It just sort of fit. "When we're out of the cockpits, it's small letters," she assured him, taking a seat on the edge of her bed. "So what's up?"
There was the slightest pause, like he was questioning whether to ask, but he did anyway. "Are you okay?"
"Of course." She didn't even think about it.
"I mean... it felt like you were just switched off the whole time out there."
And here she'd been patting herself on the back for getting over the panic attack that had been Sernpidal. She'd been concerned about that, especially after Flight class, but she'd gotten through it surprisingly well. "I've seen a lot worse than what happened out there. One more thing doesn't even register," she admitted.
"Not even an adrenaline rush? You were the only one completely calm during all of that," Anakin said.
Jaina pursed her lips, and decided to be honest. "I've been in dozens of battles, Anakin. And that's just in a ship. You don't let personal feelings come into it. If I let it affect me every time I went out, had to deal with every death that happened, I'd be crazy by now."
"Doesn't seem too healthy."
"I'd say the same thing about the alternative," she said, and managed a little smile. "I'm good, I promise."
He seemed to accept that. Maybe he understood how she worked, or maybe he wasn't really all that concerned to begin with. Or maybe he just trusted her. "Okay. That's all I wanted to know."
"Sure, don't stick around to say hi," Jaina teased.
"I'll be around for hi's after I've made my report to Uncle Luke," Anakin said with a smile.
"So you've been in capital letters mode."
"Maybe," he said, looking a little chagrined. "I'll see you when I'm out of it."
She let him go, and hated the war a little more now that her baby brother had to check up on her before giving his report these days.
