Christmas 2008 had been spent aboard Ralroost, waiting as John healed up from being impaled during a mission. Since then there'd been a couple more Christmases, to the point that Jaina had absolutely no problem taking some time to go home. The new Jedi Academy was barely at the beginning stages of being built, she had potential mission stuff to talk over with Luke, and she hadn't gotten to spend hardly any time at all with tiny Ben before coming back to Fandom last time. Holidays were supposed to be about family, and she was all about that this year.

And getting to bring John with her was an unexpected bonus. Her family had to be wtfing at her when she left a room, but that was fine. She knew it was confusing. There was happiness going on here, that's what counted.

After spending some time with everyone, Jaina led John back to the room (Han, being the type of dad he was, had insisted on them having two separate rooms, and Jaina had said fine and then completely disregarded this), asking, "Is it weird to be back here?"

Yeah, like he was buying that. "I'm not asking what they do with the robes."

Now she was staring. "Wear them for the ceremony, what were you thinking?"

"They don't wear much of anything the rest of the time," he pointed out, "so it's kinda kinky." It would be the equivalent of humans going around naked for a ceremony.

"Oh, sweetie, please don't refer to Wookiees or their behavior as 'kinky'." Her poor brain.

"What, not a fan of kinky?" He should probably just stop talking.

"Not when it comes to Wookiees I have to work with," she said. He should know where she stood otherwise by now.

"Hey, things can change," he pointed out. "Maybe if you'd been the one seven years ahead you'd see things differently." Yes, and hooked up with Lowie.

"Does that mean you think I'd be kinkier, or that I'd have come around to interspecies lovin'?" ...Dimitri did not count. Because Jaina didn't know guardians weren't totally human, shush.

"Hmm, both," John decided, thinking one might get him someplace and the other was funny so both were needed.

"Hate to disappoint you, but I'm pretty sure I'm sticking to my own species in that department," she assured him.

A thoughtful look came over his face. "As someone from a galaxy far, far away from here, I gotta wonder if you haven't already."

"Maybe I was so traumatized by our breakup I decided no more humans for me?" she asked, wondering if he wasn't just a little insane.

"Just 'cause I'm not green doesn't mean we're the same species," John pointed out.

She gave him a funny look. "We're both human, aren't we?"

"How can you call it the same thing from all the way out here?" Something about this was blowing his mind.

"No idea. For all I know way back when people from my galaxy colonized on Earth or something," she shrugged. "But I bet if we wanted to grab Cilghal and compare our DNA, we'd both show up the same." Except he was the one with a funky gene.

"Of course we'd be the colonized ones," John said, chuckling a little. "That earn me any special points with you?"

"Hey, Zayne's from ten thousand years ago and he's got far more advanced technology than Earth does, it stands to reason you're our fault," she grinned. "Did you really think I wasn't human all this time?"

"Well, I've never met a girl who can pinch with her toes like you do," John pointed out, totally thinking this was a sign of her alieny-ness.

"That's because I'm special," she pointed out. "And also because I grew up with brothers."

"I had a brother, too," John reminded her. "Yet my feet are normal."

"Maybe I was just more ruthless. And my feet are normal, just talented."

"Ruthless and talented," he repeated with an air of pride in his voice. "That's my girl."

"Better watch it, I might start to think you only love me for my feet." She had no idea how they ended up talking like this sometimes, but she'd never knock it.
