Jaina would never have believed she could even think it, but she was sort of glad to be able to get to Fandom after spending Thanksgiving with the family, because now she could get back to her routine. Especially now that her routine was beginning to become less about distraction and more about training again as she adjusted to certain new realities.

Too bad her routine got shot to hell today by a rare bout of oversleep coupled with work calls she had to take care of, so she didn't get to go for her workout till after class. Afterwards, she came back to her room, opened the water bottle on her desk, and went to drink from it-

"Ugh," she said, pulling it away from her mouth after tasting what was actually inside. It wasn't that it was bad, it was just that she needed actual water after that much time in the gym, not egg nog. Deciding that maybe she'd just head for the shower instead, it was a really good thing she ran the water before stepping in.

Fine. She'd just change clothes and stay sweaty today. Thanks, Fandom!

[Door and post open. I'm home today feeling icky. Entertain me plz. *makes Precious Moments eyes*]

John laughed his odd, dorky laugh. "Sarah's too common a name for you."

She still liked the laugh, for some reason, and she thought she probably shouldn't read too much into that comment. "And don't you forget it," she said, still going for light. "Though I was famous back home for a while there. Whatever my name is, it might be really popular now because of me anyway." Which would be weird, but.

"Lots of little Jaina's running around the galaxy would be pretty terrifying," he decided. And really, like John needed a reminder of how the two of them could have had children. "You might end up as generic as a John."

"But you've got a common name, there's nothing generic about you," she told him. Maybe if he was generic, she'd be having an easier time getting over him. Considering that, you know, she wasn't over him even a little bit. "So ha. Long live Jainas."

"I'm certainly the only John Sheppard you know," he said, and really, being just friends would have been easier if there'd been fighting involved with their breakup.

Right about then, John realized he was probably the worst husband ever for keeping this conversation going given how these conversations with Jaina always used to go. "So, how's this Jaina gonna do for finals?"

That was a subject change. Jaina frowned, but her rule on this was just not to read too much into anything, and later she wouldn't be driving herself crazy being confused. "This Jaina should do pretty well. I've only got two classes, right at the beginning of the week, and one of them is Professor Atreides' and she's yet to fail me. And then it's just one more semester."

"It sounds like no time at all." Too bad he wished it was just equal time. "Remember, to be a true senior you gotta skip a few classes and lay around campus with books on your face to make the underclassmen nervous about how this stuff really works."

"Should I do any actual reading while I'm wearing a book on my face?" she asked.

"I so failed you," he sighed. "No. But claim it's important you learn whatever's in the book should someone ask. I found picking something I was mildly interested in always helped." And you know, him having that lit minor kind of made the activity that much scarier.

"I'm learning so much about you right now," she told him. "I still have never seen actual evidence of you reading. Maybe I should have asked questions about the book."

"Yeah, but to know if my answers were right you'd have to read the book, too." Not that he'd make up answers, nope. "Did I tell you I started reading with Mitch?"

"No. What book?" And if she was a little wary when asking, it was because Mitch had been the one who got her reading ~~the meta for~~ The Time Traveler's Wife, which had been really funny at the kriffing time.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," John supplied. "It's not bad, but he has really weird taste in books."

"Clearly I've been on Earth too long," Jaina said. "My first thought is that the tattoo is probably a tramp stamp, and my second is that of course Mitch would pick that." Said fondly, of course. She did miss Mitch.

John chuckled because she was right. "Just don't tell me you've acquired a tramp stamp since I left. I don't think asking for pictorial proof would be a good idea..."

Well now. "I could make you wonder about that, but no. No tattoos. That I'm telling you about."

Oh, so mean. "You wouldn't tell me?" And that would be the tone similar to the start of a fairly good pout.

Oh. She knew the pout tone. "You'd want to know?"

"So long as its not some hot shot pilot's name, definitely," he said. "I'm tattoo-free still, to keep things transparent. Not that it matters, uh, yeah." So not something to talk about with the attractive, young, ex-girlfriend.

Wait. In any other situation, she'd call the comment about the hot shot pilot's name jealousy, but... She would not have counted on that. Like at all.

"Guess it's a good thing I had to get your hot shot pilot name removed then, huh?" she said, still trying for teasing because she couldn't just ask anything straight out here and was flailing too hard to find a subject change.

Call it a combination of missing her and old-fashioned jealousy. "I thought I told you to get my initials so you'd never have to remove them?"

"I'm not going to be the person telling people she got her own initials tattooed on her," she pointed out. "Besides, your name looked better in script. I should have opted out of getting the last name too, though..."
