Room 313, Friday evening

There had been a long afternoon on the comm trying to work things out with generals and admirals and then more time working things out with Kyp and Jacen and by the end of it, Jaina was either ready to tear her hair out or head to the bar. The Duro raid would be over soon enough, though, and then she could relax some. Maybe.

Right now, though, she was sitting on the floor of her room with the door cracked open, catching up on the rest of her messages.

[Mostly for the impatient new ruler of Pardland, but open.

ETA: Ninja official announcement to see who is paying attention: Pard has now renamed Fandom High Pardland, and has declared martial law. Further details forthcoming with more drinks.]

That was sort of random. John frowned, "What do you mean you want me to stay but you're not going to ask?"

"So you want me in your squadron," he raised an eyebrow. "I'll keep that in mind."

"Okay, let's back up a second," John said. "Are you saying you want to do something long-distance here or are you asking me to come home with you? Well, minus the asking part." Which was still weird. Mostly because he would never invite himself along for that.

She was leaving a lot of room for interpretation there, and John couldn't help noticing it. "Right. You want to work out only kind of sort of hating if I wanted to come back with you. No, I know you didn't mean it that way, or at least, I hope you didn't, but when you say things like that, I can't help but think it'd be easier on you if I was just gone."

"You also have Fandom," John pointed out, unwilling to take that sort of credit. "And your grandfather."

"I promise I'm not that selfless, here," John told her.

"Okay... I'll try not to do that." She was making almost no sense to him and his confusion was probably painfully obvious.

John blinked up at her. "If you think I'm going to make things bad and uncomfortable, you don't get to tell me not to worry about it." He was starting to wonder if they were having two different conversations here.

"Or maybe try saying what you mean," he suggested, climbing to his feet. "Because you keep acting like I don't understand when I repeat your words back at you."

"Then maybe I should be the one to quit talking," he suggested. "I should probably go anyway, gotta get up early and all."

At least she had work she could throw herself into. "See ya around," he muttered, heading for the door.
