Room 527, Friday afternoon

Jaina was trying very hard not to let what Ganner had said get to her. She was failing miserably. But she was at least doing a fairly okay job of hiding it, maybe.

She tried to focus on John, and when he started getting better, she focused on work, too. She was relieved to get back to Fandom for once, though, just to get away from the situation. Stepping into the room, she decided, "This is more like it."

[For the bf, who I am shamelessly modding. Merry Christmas to me!]

To John, Jaina'd been acting weird, but he was blaming himself for that and working to show her how healthy and capable he was, even if it was stretching the truth a little.

"More like what?" John asked, following her into his room and dumping his things on the floor.

John toed off his shoes, glad he didn't need to bend down to unlace them. "It sounded like the opening to a Holiday Inn Express commercial."

"I don't know," he shrugged. "I guess it's like coming home, only this isn't really home."

"You're the one who said it was more like it," John replied. "We're not talking about me."

"Better than ever," he promised. "You okay with being back so soon?" He'd tiptoed around this topic since he found out they were returning to Fandom.

"That's a really big range," he commented, taking a seat and grabbing a pillow to give his hands something to mess with.

She was dodging his question, so it seemed only fair to dodge hers. "Jury's still out."

Turning to face her, his reply was easy. "I honestly don't know."

"I do, sometimes," he shrugged. "It's not as though I'm going to be here forever."

"That's not what I meant," he rested his head in his hand. "I mean I'm just...well, why are we having this conversation?"

John didn't know why it was so difficult to talk about the things he liked in Fandom, but probably it had something to do with how he did think of it as home and the fact that he would be leaving for good sooner than he'd like.

"So let's talk about something else," John tried.

"Oh come on, it's can't all be bad," John said, smacking lightly at her with the pillow. "I'm pretty awesome, after all."

"You seem to need a pillow-whacking," John decided. "The statue of limitations on sulking because you're dating an idiot ends now."
