Somewhere between Coruscant and Bastion- late Wednesday Fandom time

It was rare that Jaina had missions end early, so she appreciated when it happened. She had taken one of the Imperial Knight trainees, a human girl named Kestra, on what ended up being a boring, routine trip to guard some VIPs from one planet on their way to see some other VIPs from another planet. It may not have been the best practice for a kid who could stand to see what she could do in the field, but when peacetime was the goal, you had to go with it.

Jag had the boys on a trip back to Bastion, so Jaina and Kestra met them halfway, docking their ships aboard the corvette to ride the rest of the way back. It was an extra night with family, listening to Daniel complain about how boring sitting in on any of his father's meetings were, while also being wholeheartedly disappointed when Kestra didn't have anything exciting to say about their trip. Turns out kids didn't like when you said boring could be good.

Jaina had maybe been asleep for an hour when she felt her whole brain jolt her awake. Her danger sense was screaming at her, but she took a second to reach out and get a feel for the situation. Eight new presences, getting closer. She reached out for Kestra, still asleep in her cabin, and shouted at her in the Force to get ready.

Jag, the lightest sleeper in the galaxy after his time on Tenupe, woke up as soon as Jaina touched his shoulder. "What's wrong?"

"We've been boarded," she said.

He didn't even question it. He was already getting out of bed to grab his comlink. "I've got the boys."

Jaina nodded. It wasn't worth taking the time to get dressed- wasn't the first time she'd had to fight anyone in sleep clothes and the odds were good that it wouldn't be the last, but she toed on her boots and grabbed her lightsaber, and with another nod to Jag she slipped out of their quarters and into the corridor. For as worried as she was, she wasn't prone to panic, Jag was competent, his people were competent and would prioritize the family, and Jaina could get a head start.

Whoever it was hadn't made it this far yet, so she was willing to bet they were still coming up from the hangar. There wasn't any real cover so she was carefully scanning with the Force before she made her way around corners. Meaning when one masked intruder was about to do just that, se was able to reach around the corner and slam his head into the wall, dropping him before he even knew she was there.

He wasn't alone, and when she did come out into full sight in the hall, the attacker fired his blaster. She reached out a hand to catch the bolt on her palm, deflecting it to hit him square in the chest. Once he was down, Jaina crouched next to him, picking up his blaster and checking the settings. Kill, not stun. Assassination, not kidnapping.

All right, then she wasn't going to feel bad about anything that happened next, and the first guy was getting a shot to the head because now she couldn't risk him getting up again.

The ship was too big and it was too late at night, and therefore it was too quiet for Jaina's liking. She hated sneaking around. Every once in a while she'd feel a spark of alarm from somewhere that meant that either Kestra or the security team had found someone, but she had no way to know how it went. It was kind of a relief when she lucked into running across another intruder who happened to be coming off the turbolift at the wrong time, and Jaina made sure that didn't end well for her.
,
And then she stepped into the lift, hit the controls to go down, and had her lightsaber ignited by the time the door opened. There were another three that had been waiting to come up, and none of them stood a chance. She forced them back, there weren't enough of them to keep her attention, and none of them were a match for a lightsaber anyway. It was over in seconds, and Jaina was beginning to wonder if she should have used less force… and then she'd remember the kill setting.

The rest of the way to the hangar was clear, and by the looks of it there wasn't anyone else down here, though there was at least one dead mechanic she spotted on the floor. There was only one ship, small enough that there couldn't have been many more people than what she'd run into. She thumbed on her comlink. "Status?"

"I think we're in the clear here, Master Solo," came Kestra's voice. "I'm with Nuras, they're doing another sweep just in case, but… it was all pretty quick."

"Good on my end, too," Jaina said. "I'm at the hangar, have them send someone down to secure their ship, just in case."

"Copy."

And now she could finally let herself feel the worry. If there was one thing Jaina was good at, it was compartmentalizing her own emotions while having to kill people. "Have you seen Jag?"

"No, but they had it pretty handled. I'm not worried."

"Me either." Aside from her school age sons being woken up in the middle of the night by assassins. "I'll maintain position till security get down here."
